Wrinkle Smoothing

WHAT IS A ‘WRINKLE SMOOTHING’ TREATMENT & WHAT DOES IT DO?

Natural expressions such as frowning, lifting the eyebrows, smiling and talking can eventually cause lines and wrinkles to develop. The muscles that contract and help cause the facial expression can be treated with a prescription only medicine containing Botulinum Toxin Type A.
At MM Skin Clinics we use the brand Azzalure (R).

This is a purified protein injected into specific muscles on the face to relax them, softening facial expressions and helping to reverse the signs of ageing. This temporarily tightens and smoothes the areas, reducing the muscle movement and rejuvenating the skin.

WHAT AREAS CAN IT TREAT?

The most popular areas are the upper face – namely the:

  • Frown lines
  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • The wrinkles at the sides of the eyes
  • The ‘bunny’ lines across/ sides bridge of nose
  • Also can achieve a slightly more lifted brow and fresher, more open-eyed appearance.

Other areas can be treated please discuss with your practitioner:

  • Jaw slimming/for teeth clenching
  • Vertical lines around the mouth
  • To lift sad mouth corners
  • For deep chin creases/puckered chin
  • For excessive underarm sweating

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

Once the client has been treated, they should expect to wait up to 1-3 weeks for the full effect and to start to reduce the wrinkles. The clinical effectiveness is about 3 months however with repeated treatments this can increase up to 6 months.

The reduction in muscle contraction over time leads to weakening and further smoothing of wrinkles. Depending on each individuals depth of wrinkles, age, lifestyle and skincare – a treatment programme may be recommended.

Firstly you will be seen for a free consultation by Nurse Director Maxine.
Azzalure (R) is a prescription medicine so you shall be seen before it is obtained from the specialist pharmacy.

Initially you will be seen for a free consultation. Your facial concerns will be discussed and other questions about your health, allergies, medications and medical background.

You will be given options on what is available and suitable for you. If you wish, an email will be sent which details what has been discussed, also some information leaflets will be given. Any queries will be answered honestly and treatments discussed that are tailored to be right for you.

Its completely up to you what you decide and there is no pressure!

You should only go ahead with the procedure when you feel that you have been well informed and all questions answered. The procedure can take 20-30 minutes.

A medical questionnaire and consent form is completed. Confidential photographs are taken before. The skin is cleansed with antiseptic. The injections are using a fine needle to ensure comfort. The practitioner may ask you to do facial expressions in between to assess your muscle contraction/strength.

A recovery cream and cover up can also be applied.

Post procedure advice will be given and a follow up appointment booked.

RECOVERY TIME/SIDE EFFECTS

Many clients go back to their usual routine. Some activities will need to be avoided for a few hours such as lying flat, bending forward and exercising.

You may experience slight redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising following the treatment. This is the same as you might expect from any type of injection. This is temporary and usually disappears within a few days, or can be disguised with make up.

You may start to see improvements from a few days to three weeks.

Side effects can include a headache, feeling ‘restricted’ temporarily.

Uncommon side effects include droopy eyebrows or eyelids.
