Clinic Re-opening, July 7th 2020

I’m so happy that my clinic doors will be back open from July 7th 2020. The Pandemic has been difficult, never known anything like it. I hope that you have been keeping safe and healthy.

It’s been great to go on long walks, I’m running regularly too! I have an allotment which had been neglected, and I am now growing all sorts of veg! The weather has been fantastic to help lift the spirits.

Business can’t resume as normal as I must use extra care to protect us. These new guidelines include enhanced infection control and health and safety measures. For safety reasons, I can only offer ‘Botulinum Toxin’ 1-3 areas (as you will be required to wear a face mask). Dermal Fillers and Profhilo are being put on hold for a month or two. Any consultations or reviews will be offered via video call to avoid unnecessary clinic visits. I think we are used to these since Lockdown!

I have been contacting clients on the priority list first (ones I had to cancel), so the availability is now from July 15th – please call me on 07969 199468 Or 0121 769 2269 or email enquiries@maxinemoseley.co.uk

I will also be speaking to all my clients by telephone prior to their appointment, there will be a health questionnaire to complete, I will also discuss the adaptations to expect on your visit. It may not be possible to honour your appointment, but i do need to put your safety first!

Extra caution/concerns with my patients are those with Heart, Respiratory, Liver or Kidney Disease and also the following;

  • Diabetes
  • Immunodeficiency conditions.
  • Currently being treated for cancer
  • Obesity
  • Age 65 or over
  • Ethnicity
  • Any patient that has been advised to shield at home
  • Any seasonal allergies which cause spontaneous coughing or sneezing

NEW CLINIC STRUCTURE – Please bear with me, this is the recommended procedure for the time being. I promise that I will still be my usual self, looking forward to seeing you and offering the best customer experience and results!

  • Please attend the appointment alone.
  • Wear no face make up (foundation) and hair tied back.
  • Please bring a face mask to wear. (If unable to, I will provide)
  • No shopping bags, bring the least possible with you.
  • Please ensure you have been to the toilet before arrival, best not to use the facilities in the building unless necessary. (Although they will be cleaned regularly)
  • Unfortunately, contact time has to be kept to a minimum, so we have to concentrate on the treatment, not much time for general chit-chat! (Maybe a little!)
  • Please pay on a card or bank transfer only – no cash.
  • Please wait in your car or outside until I have texted/called you its clear to enter.
  • I have allocated extra gaps between clients to avoid cross-over, but there are other practitioners in the building with clients.
  • When ok to enter – come straight upstairs, do not touch the bannister, the top door will be open.
  • There is a new automatic hand sanitiser at the top of the stairs.
  • If you come across another person, there are points to wait at the top of the stairs, the lobby area in the main toilet, and the side of the waiting room, or wait back outside for them to exit via the stairs.
  • Come straight to my clinic room, do not sit in the waiting area, try not to touch anything on your way in, if so – do not touch your face with your hands.
  • I will invite you to wash your hands.
  • I am going to be in scrubs, with safety glasses, mask and gloves, please don’t be alarmed by this, it’s the new procedure.
  • I will be checking your temperature with a non-touch thermometer.
  • Please be reassured that in between patients, I will be taking extra time to thoroughly clean the room.

We have also invested in an anti-COVID Spray treatment that is used on our floor for deep clean once a week, so if you do touch anything on entry to the building, the spray eliminates COVID/deters it and keeps sanitised for 7 days.

Important advice when considering Lip Filler Enhancement

Recently aired on BBC Watchdog and highlighted in the media, are serious issues with ‘botched’ Lip Fillers.

Unfortunately, I am hearing and seeing a lot more of these reports, so I wanted to take this opportunity to give you some important advice and guidance to consider before having a lip filler treatment.

Always go to an experienced medical practitioner, either a Doctor, Dentist or Nurse.

Please ensure you meet them first for a consultation, this is so
important, as a consultation is where a medical questionnaire is completed and all the information you need to know is discussed. This includes being informed about the dermal filler that they would be using and the potential side effects and risks of the procedure. They will also be doing an assessment of your face and lips to discuss what your desired outcomes are and what can be achieved and offer post-procedure advice.

Please be extremely wary of cheap prices, beauty salons and someone offering to come and do the treatment at your home! And also non-medical practitioners. I am seeing daily, that when there is a problem, there is no, or poor aftercare offered which is frankly negligent.

I cannot stress enough how disastrous this can be if things go wrong. People can have serious problems from a botched treatment such as huge swelling and pain, skin breakdown, the death of tissue, blocking of arteries and even potential blindness!

So once again before you put your precious lips and your health into someone else’s hands these are the important checks you must make before having a treatment!

  • Go to an EXPERIENCED medical practitioner – Doctor, Nurse or Dentist.
  • Attend a consultation before deciding on the treatment.
  • Learn about what filler they are using and potential side effects and risks of the treatment itself.
  • Be aware of non-medical practitioner’s, cheap prices, beauty salons and home visits.

Summer skinIt’s holiday season and the weather in the UK has been fantastic for a change!

But Maxine sees the longer-term effects on her clients from the sun or outdoor exposure. It really does age your skin and can look years older with a wrinkled, pigmented, damaged dull appearance.

WHY? We all feel great with a tan but is it worth it? NO!! HERE’S THE SCIENCE BIT….

Photo-damage to your skin is caused by UV (Ultra Violet) radiation in daylight.

These are invisible rays that are part of the energy that comes from the sun and can burn and cause skin cancer.

UV radiation is made up of 3 types of rays – UVA (ultraviolet A), UVB (ultraviolet B) and UVC (ultraviolet C)

On hot and sunny days, the biggest threat to your skin is UVB radiation. These are the rays that visibly burn/tan the skin. However, it is the daily UVA radiation that damages skin more, all year around EVEN ON CLOUDY DAYS.

The danger with UVA radiation is that it doesn’t burn or tan your skin, so you don’t see the visible damage as with UVB radiation (‘Burning Rays’). UVB is a shorter wave ultraviolet ray and UVA is a longer wave ultraviolet ray.

Therefore, UVA penetrates deeper into the dermis of the skin (it’s thickest layer) prematurely ageing the skin. It can damage the skins healthy cells and protein, break down natural defences, damage the DNA in the cells, causing cell death or leading to skin cancer, and affect your skins pigmentation causing brown patches and age spots.

The dangers of shopping around for the cheapest price

A common mistake people make in facial cosmetic procedures – Shopping around for cheapest price.

Unfortunately I get calls most days where the customer only wants to know how much I charge. When I ask, they don’t seem interested about my experience and knowledge, what products I use, the time I spend with my clients, the procedure and aftercare involved.

It can be tempting going for bargain deals, however this is your face and safety is paramount. It is increasingly frowned upon to offer non-surgical treatments (as well as cosmetic surgery) for competition winners, ‘shares and like to win on Facebook’, discounts, expiry dates on offers.

This is viewed as incentives/pressurising -which should not force a decision. Also, for these ‘cut-price’ deals – which products are on offer – cheap dermal fillers or unregulated ‘botox’ have been used to cut costs.

Small amounts of the products can be injected to keep prices down.

I have heard on a few occasions that the client has noticed no difference afterwards so it is actually a waste of money.

Also there are increasing numbers of newly qualified non-medical practitioners offering these treatments. With limited aesthetic experience or medical knowledge.

I have been told by clients that come to me, when they met the previous practitioner, there was no detailed consultation/facial assessment or explanation of the procedure, what is being used and why, the risks and side effects, no medical or consent forms being signed and no photographs taken. Within 10 minutes of meeting, they are having the treatment.

Aftercare is often poor or non-existent, difficult to contact once your money has been taken.

I have been a qualified nurse for 25 years, and must adhere to my professional code of conduct. I am regulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and am a member of the British Association of Cosmetic Nurses (BACN). I am an independent nurse prescriber – required for the face to face consultation then administration of prescription only medicines (POM’s) mostly Botulinum toxin Type A.

I offer a free consultation which is important to meet the customer prior to any treatment. To discuss your concerns and give you options available. Also to understand the procedures, risks, side effects and benefits. Future maintenance required. I advise changes in lifestyle, skincare and nutrition as this does have an impact on skin health. It’s important for me to know you are fully informed with realistic expectations before you make any decisions. I strive to ensure my clients are delighted with the results and if there are any issues I will endeavour to ensure satisfaction.

What a Free Consultation involves

I believe the initial consultation is vital to meet -before any decisions are made by the customer. You can see where I am based, my comfortable and clean clinic environment, many training certificates visible. You can decide in person if you feel happy and comfortable with me and would trust me to advise and perform an aesthetic treatment for you.

I am aware that many new clients are nervous and may have been contemplating seeking advice for a long time. Some have received unsatisfactory aesthetic treatments in the past, or are looking for a different  opinion. I strive to ensure my client feels able to confide in me, ask any range of questions, with enough time for me to provide detailed information on what your options are. There is no pressure or sales pitch at MM Skin Clinics. I may also decline clients that I feel are not ‘in the right place’ psychologically, unrealistic expectations, or medically unsuitable. Or help refer onto a specialist required in another field i.e. Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon.

I shall ask various questions on medical history and present issues. Also about your lifestyle and current skincare, previous aesthetic treatments or surgery.

We will discuss your facial concerns and I will assess your face structure and skin. I can then provide you verbal and written information on what is available, what I recommend. You will be emailed a copy of our consultation notes.

There is an ongoing maintenance with aesthetic treatments, a ‘one-off’ quick fix will eventually fade. I ascertain what treatment plan may work for you, respecting that each client is an individual and it must be what suits you.

My main concern is to offer a top quality service, whilst being safe and adhering to my nursing code of conduct and clinical guidelines.

October Open Evening

There will be stalls for early Christmas Shopping, demonstrations of services provided including weight loss, colour analysis and life coaching, beauty and semi-permanent make-up.

Exclusive offers will be available, also a raffle to support Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer. Fizz and nibbles will be served.

Maxine will be free to discuss all aspects of skin care including treatments with top quality, non-surgical products.
